Job Title: Steam Plant Optimization Engineer

At ADM, we are seeking a highly skilled Steam Plant Optimization Engineer to join our team. As a member of our North America Engineering and Technology Center, you will play a critical role in optimizing our steam plant operations to ensure safety, reliability, and efficiency.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering, with experience in utility technology, strategy, and coordination. You will be responsible for maintaining ownership of our energy balance model for utility-scale cogeneration of electricity and steam, providing engineering leadership to resolve complex problems, and supporting our Sustainability and Conservation Goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support ADM safety policies
  • Maintain ownership of energy balance model for utility-scale cogeneration of electricity and steam
  • Provide engineering leadership to resolve complex problems
  • Support and drive progress on ADM's Sustainability and Conservation Goals
  • Perform as Utilities SME as part of a capital project development and design review team
  • Generate equipment specification
  • Research and promote modern technologies that improve efficiency and increase optimization
  • Evaluate system/equipment failures and collaborate to determine root cause
  • Perform field work facilitating and directing internal company and contracted personnel
  • Coordinate and collaborate with multiple disciplines and various levels of management
  • Provide technical support and training to others when necessary
  • Provide update and documentation for FEL (Front End Loading) process and SOP/Guidelines

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in an engineering discipline: Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
  • 2+ years related experience
  • Strong safety knowledge and understanding of Cogen/Boiler house and utility operations
  • Ability to explain and drive compliance with SOP's and safe work practices
  • Ability to explain and drive compliance with all jurisdictional code requirements
  • Ability to recognize, assess, and provide opportunities for energy efficiency and optimization
  • Full understanding of the principles of operation of water treatment, combustion, electrical generation and distribution, cooling tower and compressed air
  • Ability to interpret flow diagrams and P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagram)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in ADM PE, FEL, and WAVE systems
  • Personally committed to working safely and maintaining a safe working environment
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and positive interpersonal skills
  • Well-developed independent judgment and problem solving
  • Work effectively as part of a team or independently
  • Excellent organizational skills, able to effectively handle multiple ongoing tasks
  • Continuous process improvement mindset driving best practices and reliability
  • Task oriented and self-motivated, able to function without direct supervision

Critical Abilities:

  • Physical ability to work in an industrial setting
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures, walk, stand, and climb stairs and ladders to perform tasks and inspections
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment and move through constricted or restricted spaces
