The Heavy Equipment Mechanic (HEM) plays a crucial role in diagnosing and repairing both military and civilian wheeled equipment across various classifications, including light, medium, and heavy vehicles. This position requires collaboration within a skilled team of mechanics, employing both traditional and advanced diagnostic tools to troubleshoot and resolve equipment malfunctions.

Key Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Conducting routine and emergency maintenance on wheeled vehicles and trailers.
  • Evaluating, testing, and operating wheeled equipment (both commercial and military) to assess serviceability and functionality.
  • Refueling and servicing equipment with essential fluids such as oil, coolant, and hydraulic fluid, as well as disassembling and reassembling faulty components.
  • Removing, repairing, cleaning, and reinstalling parts and accessories while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Managing hazardous materials and waste disposal in accordance with applicable environmental standards.
  • Performing inspections, cleaning, and servicing of wheeled equipment for maintenance purposes.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized workspace, ensuring accountability for property and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Utilizing various repair and testing equipment, including Maintenance Support Devices and electrical testers.
  • Executing additional tasks as required to meet operational objectives.
  • Job responsibilities may evolve based on contractual obligations.
Qualifications

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid State Driver's License.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship, such as a birth certificate or U.S. Passport.

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of three (3) to six (6) years of experience in the maintenance of wheeled equipment or a related field.
  • Applicants must provide their own compliant tools that meet Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.

SKILLS:

  • Proficiency in servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing military and civilian wheeled equipment.
  • Familiarity with electronic technical manuals and diagnostic procedures.
