POSITION SUMMARY
The Virtualization Systems Engineer plays a crucial role in managing and optimizing virtualization environments. Key responsibilities include:

  • Proficient management of VMware and Windows systems, including troubleshooting, upgrades, and migrations.
  • Strong command-line expertise with ESX servers.
  • Monitoring performance metrics of ESX servers and virtual machines, alongside patch management using VMware Update Manager.
  • Collaboration with VSPHERE, VMware Consolidated Backup, and virtual machine backup solutions.
  • Backup and restoration processes for VMware servers and virtual sessions.

Experience in the installation, configuration, and administration of components within extensive VMware environments, adhering to best practices for vCenter, VMware Update Manager, vCenter Operations Manager, and vCenter Site Recovery Manager.

Proficient in server consolidation and virtualization techniques for hardware reduction and site migration through P2V and V2V methodologies. Demonstrated experience in upgrading ESXi hosts and VM guests utilizing update manager.

Possess strong analytical skills to identify issues and propose effective solutions. Conduct audits of the environment and provide recommendations for technological and process enhancements.

Develop and implement advanced methodologies and research techniques to address complex system design requirements and challenges.

Address hardware and software issues as they arise, minimizing downtime and ensuring operational efficiency.

Review relevant literature, patents, and current practices to inform project solutions.

Evaluate vendor capabilities to ensure alignment with project needs and consult on technical aspects with other organizational units.

Maintain a robust security posture and ensure data integrity through the evaluation, implementation, and management of appropriate software and hardware solutions.

Conduct regular audits of hardware and software configurations to ensure compliance with established standards and policies.

Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of operating system hardware and software configurations, along with supporting documentation.

Respond to system alerts, engaging in troubleshooting and resolution efforts as necessary.

Collaborate with vendors to enhance product capabilities and meet customer requirements.

Schedule installations and upgrades in accordance with established IT policies and procedures, including the installation and monitoring of security auditing software, addressing any defects based on security policies.



Qualifications:


A minimum of fourteen (14) years of experience in systems engineering within programs and contracts of similar scope and complexity is required.

A Bachelor's degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or a related field from an accredited institution is required. Alternatively, five (5) years of additional systems engineering experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.

Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills are essential.


Required Skills:
  • Strong communication and customer interaction abilities.
  • Willingness to support after-hours activities.
  • Possession of a minimum Security+ certification.

This position requires a TS/SCI clearance.
