Overview:
The Ophthalmic Care Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting eye care professionals in delivering exceptional patient care and managing clinical operations.

Key Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of an eye care provider, the specialist will assist in various patient care activities. Responsibilities include:
1. Demonstrating proficiency in essential ophthalmic skills.
2. Conducting fundamental ophthalmic assessments and diagnostic tests.
3. Administering medications and performing tasks as directed by the eye care provider.
4. Assisting with minor procedures and managing prescription refills under supervision.
5. Documenting patient interactions, providing education, and processing charges.

Additionally, the specialist will facilitate patient care flow, utilizing critical thinking and sound judgment while working independently in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications:
Minimum Required Education:
High School diploma or GED.

Required Licensure/Certification:

Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT), or National Contact Lens Examiner Certification (NCLEC) if performing as a contact lens technician. Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification is also required.

Minimum Experience: 2 years of on-the-job ophthalmic training or internship.

BLS certification must be valid at the time of hire.
