REPORTS TO:

OBJECTIVE:
The Automation Specialist will engage in Research & Development activities focused on the design and enhancement of automated systems and processes. This role involves the investigation, creation, design, and evaluation of electrical components, systems, and equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Conduct thorough research and data analysis; maintain documentation and project tracking; generate and disseminate relevant reports.
2. Utilize computer-aided engineering and design software to execute engineering tasks, including CAD applications.
3. Collaborate with internal teams and plant personnel to troubleshoot issues, gather additional insights, and support design initiatives.
4. Assess the viability of designing new equipment or modifying existing systems, taking into account cost, spatial constraints, time restrictions, and other technical and economic considerations.
5. Provide technical problem-solving assistance to divisions through experimental design and sound engineering principles.
6. Develop wiring schematics, layout designs, and engineering specifications for modifications or expansions of systems or equipment.
7. Assemble and evaluate experimental motor control devices, control panels, transformers, and other electrical components.
8. Maintain positive relationships with equipment and electrical suppliers; identify and explore new potential sources; negotiate pricing and terms; place orders as necessary.
9. Initiate purchase requisitions; secure approvals; expedite orders for timely delivery; keep accurate records; verify and submit invoices for payment.
10. Adhere to established safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical discipline is preferred.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience.
- Proficient in PLC and HMI programming using various software platforms such as Studio 5000 Logix, RSLogix 500, EZWARE, Siemens, etc.
- Comprehensive understanding of ladder logic principles.
- Familiarity with computer networking techniques and concepts.
- Strong foundation in mechanical engineering.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Proficient in CAD software applications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, use hands for manipulation, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. The employee frequently stands, sits, climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 lbs., frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs., and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 lbs. Specific vision abilities required for this role include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be capable of lifting 40 lbs. and standing for extended periods, exceeding 8 hours.
