Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Composite Materials Engineer to join our team at RTX. As a key member of our Engineered Polymer Products (EPP) division, you will be responsible for supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) and Research and Development (R&D) projects, working hands-on with the fabrication process for new composite & polymer products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze composite parts to ensure optimal performance and structural integrity.
  • Develop and generate engineering product drawings and specifications to meet customer requirements.
  • Characterize and qualify composite material properties to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Develop and generate manufacturing work instructions to ensure efficient and effective production processes.
  • Focus on process development and new product introduction to drive innovation and growth.
  • Provide first article manufacturing support and oversight to ensure high-quality products.
  • Work hands-on with part fabrication, evaluation, and testing to ensure compliance with customer requirements.
  • Ensure on-time delivery of products to meet customer needs and drive business growth.
  • Collaborate with floor supervisors and technicians to achieve schedule and address technical issues.
  • Interface with customers to ensure product/process requirements are being met and drive customer satisfaction.
  • Communicate and present technical data to senior-level leadership to inform business decisions.
  • Travel up to 5% domestically when circumstances permit to support business needs.
  • Perform other duties as required to support business objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) or related field.
  • Typically 8 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and typically 5 years of experience.
  • U.S. citizenship required for security clearance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance.
  • Experience with composite material processing, prepreg, and/or infusion methods.
  • Knowledgeable of composite material mechanical properties.
  • Experience with 3D modeling software.
  • Experience establishing and tracking a project and/or program schedule using MS Project or equivalent software program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical or Materials engineering or similar degrees.
  • Basic understanding of performing FEA, preferably Abaqus CAE.
  • Experience with composite mold design.
  • Experience with composite ply design and ply flattening.
  • Experience with urethane materials and urethane material processing.
  • Experience with fabricating bonded assemblies.
  • Experience with Solidworks for both 3D models and 2D drawings.
  • Experience with GD&T.
  • Knowledge of mechanics of materials and basic mechanical analysis.
  • Knowledge of mechanical vibrations and modal analysis.
