Overview

The Speech Language Pathologist evaluates and assesses patients to create functional, measurable objectives aimed at enhancing the restoration of communication abilities. Treatment is delivered in accordance with a structured care plan designed to achieve the specified objectives. The role includes planning for patient discharge and effectively communicating findings and progress in line with professional licensure and departmental protocols. Additional reporting may be required as necessary. This position may involve supervising clinical students and support personnel, including certified assistants and volunteers. Adherence to the ASHA Code of Ethics is essential. The Speech Language Pathologist fosters a supportive environment that promotes health and recovery. Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations and assessments based on both subjective and objective data.
  • Effectively communicate evaluation results to patients and their caregivers.
  • Implement treatment strategies in accordance with established care objectives.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of interventions and care within the patient's medical records.
  • Assess the effectiveness of the care plan and make necessary adjustments to the patient's functional status.
  • Provide discharge planning information, including education for patients and families, follow-up care, and referrals to community resources.
  • Contribute to the professional development of staff and students.
  • Engage in initiatives aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery.
  • Achieve assigned performance goals.
Qualifications

Experience

Minimum: Entry-level position.

Licensure and Certification

Minimum: SLP; BLS certification required within 14 days of hire.

Essential Skills

Minimum: Proficient in basic computer skills, including keyboarding, mouse usage, and internet navigation.
