Position Overview: MaineGeneral Health is in search of a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to enhance our Gastroenterology department. The successful candidate will deliver specialized care to patients experiencing disorders of the digestive system, assist in various procedures, and provide thorough patient education and support.

Role Description:

Position Title: Registered Nurse - Gastroenterology

  • This role involves a dynamic environment where you will manage and deliver patient care, including phone triage, communicating results to patients, conducting capsule endoscopies, reviewing referrals for procedural sedation, and ensuring appropriate cardiac and anticoagulation clearances.

Key Highlights:

  • This is a part-time position, totaling 28 hours per week, with a weekday schedule. There are no weekend, evening, holiday, or on-call requirements.
  • Ideal for a nurse possessing strong clinical decision-making abilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements, and assesses patient care plans based on thorough patient evaluations to enhance outcomes and utilize available resources effectively. Monitors, documents, and communicates patient conditions as necessary.
  • Assesses the educational needs of patients and/or their families, providing tailored education based on age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Handles inquiries from patients and caregivers, offering advice, referrals, and educational resources. For symptomatic patients, determines the necessity and type of care required and guides the caller on appropriate actions.
  • Performs administrative tasks to coordinate patient care, including data collection, managing phone communications, scheduling tests and appointments, processing prescriptions, verifying insurance coverage, and handling billing and payments.

Qualifications:

  • Active RN licensure in Maine or the ability to obtain it promptly is required.
  • A minimum of one year of RN experience is strongly preferred.
  • Exceptional teamwork, communication, and collaboration skills are essential.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively managing time and multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills are necessary.
