Position Overview:

The Health and Safety Specialist plays a crucial role in fostering a culture of safety within the organization. This position is integral to the operations team, focusing on the enhancement of safety practices across various sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-site safety support by observing and coaching personnel across multiple operational sites.
  • Facilitate the integration of safety culture across all North American locations.
  • Drive improvements in behavioral safety programs to promote a collaborative work environment.
  • Conduct comprehensive audits to assess compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations, identifying opportunities for enhancement.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in Root Cause Analysis (RCA), leading investigations and ensuring timely resolution of corrective actions.
  • Champion a robust Lock-out, Tag-out, Try-out (LOTOTO) program in collaboration with operations and maintenance teams.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a Process Safety Management (PSM) program.
  • Lead hazard and operability (HAZOP) reviews for new processes and site expansions.
  • Support operational and engineering teams in creating job plans for capital improvements and maintenance tasks.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of essential EHS training programs.
  • Oversee asbestos remediation initiatives, including inspections and sampling.
  • Travel as necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.

Work Environment:

This role is situated within a chemical manufacturing facility, requiring physical engagement that may involve lifting, climbing, and prolonged standing. Candidates must be capable of navigating the facility to ensure compliance with safety standards.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in EHS compliance, ideally within a manufacturing or chemical plant setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of EHS regulations and compliance requirements is essential.
  • Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) and relevant certifications are advantageous.
