Job Title: Health Educator I

Job Summary:

The City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health Educator I to join our team. As a Health Educator I, you will play a critical role in promoting healthy behaviors and preventing disease in our community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement health education programs for residents, tenants, and property owners on topics such as vector control, lead-based paint, home-based hazards, asthma prevention and management, and other environmental hazards.
  • Provide in-person education and case management to individuals and families on healthy behaviors and disease prevention.
  • Distribute educational materials to property owners, tenants, and the public through various channels.
  • Participate in health fairs and other outreach events to promote health education and disease prevention.
  • Collaborate with community partners to develop and implement health education programs that meet the needs of our diverse community.
  • Collect and verify income eligibility of tenants and provide assistance with relocation services as needed.
  • Enter data into Microsoft Office Suite software (Excel, Word, etc.) and perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in a health education setting. Education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Valid California motor vehicle operator's license may be required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, be flexible, and manage multiple assignments in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with computers, including internet, email, and office productivity software (i.e. Microsoft Office).
  • Cultural sensitivity.
  • Knowledge of family structure and community dynamics of population served.
  • Ability to accept diverse personal and cultural behaviors.
