About the Job

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Laboratory Scientist to join our team at the University of Iowa. This is a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, performing analysis of samples for chemical threat agents and contaminants in various matrices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform sample preparation, analysis, and data processing for a wide range of samples
  • Operate and maintain complex analytical instruments, including LC-MS/MS, HPLC, and GC-MS
  • Develop and validate new methods for analysis of chemical contaminants
  • Collaborate with first responders and other emergency response organizations
  • Work with a variety of individuals and groups to achieve organizational goals
Requirements
  • Master's degree in chemistry or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in laboratory techniques, including analytical instrumentation and method development/validation
  • Extensive knowledge of LC-MS/MS and GC-MS
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Valid state or commercial driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in chemistry with extensive knowledge of analytical instrumentation and method development/validation
  • Previous work in CLIA accredited labs and regulations
  • Experience with forensic sample handling procedures
  • Knowledge of CBRNe threats and chemical agents of opportunity for terrorism
