Position Overview:

Basic Commerce and Industries, Inc. (BCI) is actively seeking a full-time Senior Systems Engineer with a focus on Navy operations to support Steering and Propulsion Control Systems initiatives.

BCI specializes in areas such as Human Systems Integration, Human Factors Engineering, Interoperability, Training, Operational Systems Safety, and Weapon & Combat Systems Engineering.

Our diverse team consists of human factors engineers, operational engineers, and experienced naval officers and enlisted subject matter experts.

Required Experience:

The ideal candidate will be a former Surface Warfare Officer (SWO), Limited Duty Officer (LDO), or Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) with at least 10 years of active duty experience in the US Navy.

A minimum of 15 years of combined active duty and/or acquisition, engineering, training, or operationally-related experience is essential.

Experience on Surface Combatant Ships, including deployment in support of battle group operations with Officer of the Deck (OOD) qualification, is necessary.

Preferred qualifications include experience as an OOD on a CVN or amphibious class surface ship, and knowledge of Combat Systems related to Aegis Combat and Weapons Systems or Ship Self Defense System (SSDS).

Experience in the design, evaluation, or training of bridge systems or steering and propulsion control systems is highly desirable.

A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required, preferably in systems engineering, software engineering, or a related analytical field.

Qualifications as Tactical Action Officer (TAO) and/or Navy Instructor/Master Training Specialist (MTS) are advantageous.


Key Responsibilities:

Provide operational insights for the design, integration, and assessment of surface ship steering and propulsion systems, ensuring seamless integration with navigation, engineering, and other bridge systems.

Utilize expertise in steering and propulsion systems to develop, validate, and verify requirements that meet operational needs.

Assist in gathering fleet user feedback to evaluate and enhance steering and propulsion systems, focusing on standardization across various surface ship platforms.

Periodic travel to system development or testing sites and naval fleet concentration areas will be necessary, with an expected travel rate of around 10%.
