About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Psychologist to join our team at the VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION. As a key member of our interdisciplinary Pain Management Service, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality care to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a full range of assessment and therapeutic interventions to patients with pain-related issues.
  • Diagnose mental disorders in the pain population and develop person-centered treatment plans.
  • Conduct psychological assessments, including psychological and personality testing, to identify cognitive deficits and determine the need for further evaluation.
  • Treat psychological problems related to medical issues, especially pain, through evidence-based modalities and adjunctive interventions.
  • Provide individual and group psychotherapy, consultation, family therapy, rehabilitation, and psychoeducation to patients.
  • Recommend and incorporate evidence-based clinical procedures, including psychoeducational and rehabilitation interventions, for behavioral medicine problems, particularly pain.
  • Work within the interdisciplinary team context to provide recommendations regarding patient ability to participate in pharmacologic/implantable technology treatment for chronic pain.
  • Collaborate and consult with affiliated departments and programs, including Primary Care Mental Health Integration, General Mental Health Clinic, Substance Abuse Disorder Treatment Program, and Suicide Prevention.
  • Track consults and provide timely contact with newly referred patients.
  • Produce timely, appropriate documentation of care in accordance with agency policies.
  • Serve as an integrated member of the interdisciplinary Pain Clinic treatment team for Veterans, collaborating closely on a daily basis with the team regarding care for patients.
  • Assist with referrals to specialty mental health care as needed.
Academic and Teaching Responsibilities
  • Serve as faculty member and member of training committee for the facility's APA-accredited clinical psychology internship.
  • Provide training and clinical supervision to interns in the program.
  • Contribute to meetings and faculty training associated with the internship.
  • May serve as faculty member for regional psychiatry residency and provide training and consultation for psychiatry residents doing rotations in psychiatry.
  • May provide training and clinical supervision to trainees in other behavioral health disciplines, medical students, nursing students, and trainees of other disciplines, as assigned.
Other Responsibilities
  • Serve on the faculty's Pain Committee, Opioid Safety Initiative Committee, and STORM review team.
  • Meet regularly with Interdisciplinary Pain Team for internal team patient review and shared updates/care coordination.
  • Assist Behavioral Medicine Program Manager in developing, monitoring, and reporting on outcome and performance measures.
  • As assigned, serve on other Service, Medical Center, VISN, and/or National committees or task forces related to assigned program(s).
Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Compressed or alternate work schedules may be considered for highly qualified applicants.
