POSITION SUMMARY:

The role involves performing tasks that assist patients in fulfilling essential human needs and daily living activities, delivering fundamental patient care under the supervision of the RN or LPN. Additionally, the position encompasses advanced Nurse Assistant III responsibilities after appropriate training to improve patient care under the guidance of the RN or LPN. A variety of clerical support functions and other responsibilities are also included to aid the nursing staff in executing daily patient care operations.

This position supports telemetry functions as assigned, which includes monitoring cardiac rhythms through telemetry systems. Responsibilities also include preparing and maintaining medical records, transcribing and prioritizing physician orders, and functioning as a receptionist. The role assists in ensuring a safe and clean environment for patients.

The Clerical Nurse Assistant III is expected to alternate between clerical and clinical duties to meet departmental needs.

Reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

## # EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required, and successful completion of a certified nursing assistant program is highly preferred.

Nursing students who have completed a semester of clinical training may be considered. Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support is required upon hire or must be obtained during the introductory orientation period, along with maintaining clinical competency throughout employment in this role.

Passing the ECHN arrhythmia course or challenge exam during the introductory orientation period is mandatory.

EXPERIENCE:
######### Knowledge of medical terminology and excellent customer service skills are essential.

COMPETENCIES:
Basic computer skills are necessary. Proficiency in reading and communicating effectively in English is required.

11.# Performs Nurse Assistant III competencies independently in the clinical area after completing classroom education and receiving written verification of competence, including tasks such as removing saline locks, foley catheters, pulse oximetry, and telemetry application.

12.# Greets and directs all patients, families, visitors, and healthcare team members, providing accurate and appropriate information.

13.# Prepares medical records for new admissions and discharged patients, maintaining accurate records throughout the patient's stay.

14.# Transcribes physician orders promptly, entering them into the computer system and prioritizing those requiring immediate action, notifying the appropriate nursing staff or department.

15.# Responds timely to patient requests, including prompt acknowledgment of patient call bells.

16.# Demonstrates the ability to float to different patient care units and function effectively in various situations. 17.# Answers telephone and intercom inquiries politely, communicating information to the appropriate personnel or family members in a timely manner.

18.# Orders supplies, processes work orders, enters charges, and performs other coordinating activities to maintain unit operations, keeping department records up to date.

19.# As delegated, assists in making phone calls regarding staffing issues as determined by unit needs, as directed by the Nurse Manager/Supervisor or Clinical Charge Designee. 20.# Maintains accurate patient information on the unit whiteboard.

21.# Ensures accurate data entry of weekly schedules (both electronic and paper), updating them as changes occur, and developing interventions to address identified issues.

22.# When supporting telemetry functions, demonstrates competency in interpreting dysrhythmias, running and posting rhythm strips at specified times, communicating dysrhythmia information to the appropriate nurse promptly, and maintaining logs related to telemetry.
