Instrumentation and Controls Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY
The Instrumentation and Controls Technician is responsible for executing tasks under varying levels of supervision, focusing on the design, installation, maintenance, and testing of diverse control systems equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, PLC, computer systems, variable frequency drives, and both digital and analog components utilized in production and wastewater management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Install, maintain, repair, calibrate, and test a wide range of industrial instrumentation that monitors and regulates level, flow, pressure, temperature, and water quality.
- Conduct regular preventative maintenance checks on all control instruments, diagnosing issues, and performing necessary cleaning, lubrication, calibration, and adjustments.
- Plan and execute the installation of new metering and control devices, ensuring proper calibration and connection of related electrical circuits.
- Interpret wiring diagrams and mechanical schematics related to installations and repairs.
- Maintain accurate records and reports of work performed, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Controls & Instrument Technician, with at least two (2) years in industrial instrumentation and controls.
- Valid state driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is mandatory.
- Availability for on-call duties 24/7, including weekends and holidays.
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
- Certification or an associate degree in automation, electronic systems, or industrial instrumentation is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Proficient understanding of electrical and electronic circuits, mechanical systems, and the fundamentals of PLC and SCADA technologies.
- Familiarity with standard hand and power tools, as well as electronic testing equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose equipment failures effectively.
- Competence in modern office practices and software applications, including word processing and spreadsheets.
- Strong skills in inspecting, testing, and repairing industrial instrumentation according to established protocols.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, with potential exposure to chemicals and hazardous machinery.
- Physical capability to perform tasks such as climbing, crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to sit for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks using hands and feet.
