We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Engineer to join our team at Burns & McDonnell. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for assisting project teams in creating world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments.
Key Responsibilities- Assist project teams in designing and developing structural systems and materials, including steel, concrete, masonry, and cold-formed steel.
- Perform detailed structural analysis, design, and calculations for a variety of structural systems and materials.
- Design new industrial and manufacturing facilities, equipment foundations, and utility supports.
- Provide construction support by answering construction questions, reviewing contractor submittals, and performing field site visits.
- Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.
- Assist in the structural design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
- Modify and review production drawings for a variety of projects.
- Design structural components for project needs and requirements.
- Apply basic knowledge of commonly used structural engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures.
- Assist with research and compile project-related data as required by project managers.
- Correct and update drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD-related software.
- Assist with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
- Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
- Bachelor of Science in Structural Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program.
- Or Bachelor of Science in Structural or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Master of Science degree in Engineering may be substituted for one year of experience.
- Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) strongly preferred.
- Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
- Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
- Involvement on campus or in the community.
- Basic knowledge in standard structural engineering techniques, principles, and procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
- Proficient computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Basic computer skills include structural analysis programs (e.g., RISA), AutoCAD, and BIM (e.g., Revit and Tekla).
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
