Job Summary:

The Patient Safety Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the daily functions and operations of an assigned patient care unit at UTMB Health. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and effective communication skills to ensure the safety and well-being of patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Contributes to the success of UTMB Health Care Systems Staffing by providing continuous observation and documentation of patient activity.
  • Works with the multidisciplinary team to promote safety in patient care through clear and timely communications.
  • Assists with safe and prompt transfers of patients from various hospital/clinic areas.
  • Provides simple comfort measures and assists with personal care, including feeding, bathing, and linen changes.
  • Recognizes patient care priorities and communicates emergencies to the appropriate staff.
  • Follows policies and operating procedures when relieving in a supply booth or clinical area.
Requirements:
  • High school or equivalent education.
  • 6 months to 1-year prior experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Prefer previous hospital experience.
  • Valid CPR/BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
Working Environment:

The Patient Safety Assistant works in a standard hospital environment with moderate physical effort required, including walking, standing, sitting, and lifting. The employee is regularly required to talk or hear and must have adequate vision, hearing, talking, and sense of touch abilities to enable clear and accurate verbal communication with patients, family, or staff.
