Contribute to the academic success of students at Grand Canyon University by serving as an Academic Support Specialist within the College of Natural Sciences. This role emphasizes hands-on, inquiry-driven learning, fostering innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration. The college offers a variety of pre-professional degrees in fields such as biology, microbiology, physics, forensic science, and exercise science.
This is a part-time, in-person position. Availability to work on the main campus is required.
Position Overview:
The Academic Support Specialist will play a vital role in assisting faculty and enhancing the learning experience for students. Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting students in developing essential skills, facilitating engaging classroom discussions, and evaluating student performance to prepare them for future leadership roles.
- Assisting with in-class activities, including the supervision of examinations.
- Monitoring student progress and documenting relevant data to assist instructors in evaluating academic advancement.
- Organizing study groups outside of class to provide additional tutoring on course material.
- Potentially leading supplementary lectures to reinforce concepts covered in formal instruction.
- Aiding in the grading of assignments.
- Overseeing occasional make-up examinations and assignments.
- Serving as a positive role model for students by upholding the University's Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement, and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
Required Qualifications:
- A completed Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution at the time of application.
- A strong academic background in Molecular and Cellular Biology, with a minimum grade of B in relevant courses.
- A commitment to exemplifying the values of the University through support of its Doctrinal Statement and Ethical Position Statement.
