Job Summary

The Mammography Technologist performs radiographic mammography procedures to produce high-quality diagnostic images for the detection of breast tissue abnormalities. This role requires independent judgment, creativity, and initiative, working on a level that does not require constant supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures proper patient identification, order verification, and prepares the patient for the exam.
  • Performs radiologic mammography exams per department protocol, including advanced procedures like stereotactic biopsies, clip placements, drainages, etc.
  • Demonstrates positioning competency.
  • Provides knowledge on breast self-examinations to patients.
  • Operates mammographic equipment to produce diagnostic images of high quality.
  • Uses equipment and techniques to produce diagnostic images.
  • Ensures patient and staff safety by using radiation protection and meeting ALARA program requirements.
  • Stays current on new procedures and equipment to maintain high-level skills.
  • Maintains records required by JCAHO and the Utah State Bureau of Radiation Control.
  • Completes required documentation, including time stamps and image storage.

Requirements

  • ARRT registration.
  • Current Rad Tech license in the state of practice.
  • Meets and maintains mammography specific ACR & FDA/MQSA requirements.
  • Meets and maintains the ARRT Advanced Mammography Certification.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Imaging or Mammography.
