Overview:
As a vital member of the corrections team, the Accounting Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining a secure and humane environment while ensuring the effective management of financial resources.

Key Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities include:

  1. Monitoring the status of various appropriations, including Salaries and Expenses (S&E), Buildings and Facilities (B&F), Trust Fund Operations, and Inmate Deposit fund accounting.
  2. Providing essential administrative and financial support services, ensuring accurate daily accounting data is reflected in the Financial Management Information System (FMIS).
  3. Managing purchase orders, contracts, travel authorizations, and government transportation requests, ensuring proper allocation against the appropriate funds.
  4. Reviewing documentation for coding accuracy and ensuring timely entry into the online accounting system.
  5. Maintaining automated obligation records and source documents consistently.
  6. Preparing and reconciling funds for obligation accruals, adjusting them as necessary in accordance with applicable standards.
  7. Recording obligations into undelivered orders and accounts payable, adhering to government-wide accounting standards.
  8. Performing travel functions within the FMIS Travel Module, including establishing Travel Authorizations and preparing Travel Vouchers.
  9. Assisting in the preparation of monthly account reconciliations and adjustments for prior year appropriations.

Security Responsibilities:
In conjunction with all correctional institution staff, the incumbent is responsible for maintaining the security of the institution, with correctional duties taking precedence over other responsibilities.

Salary: $51,471 - $70,271/year

Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following educational or experiential requirements:

  • Education: Generally, education is not creditable above GL-5, but graduate education may be considered if directly related to the position.
  • Experience: Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, demonstrating the ability to perform the duties of the position.

Examples of Qualifying Experience:
For GL-06: Experience in accounting terminology, reconciling accounts, preparing financial reports, and managing accounting transactions.
For GL-07: Experience in maintaining control accounts, processing a variety of accounting transactions, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations.
