**Job Summary:**
We are seeking an experienced Senior Defense Attorney to lead our Insurance Coverage team at NJ CURE. As a key member of our staff counsel operation, you will be responsible for handling insurance coverage claims and overseeing a team of attorneys.
Key Responsibilities:
- Handle insurance coverage claims, including voids, rescissions, cancellations, and other related matters.
- Oversee a team of attorneys handling insurance coverage matters, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Counsel and assist underwriting, SIU, and other departments in the company on insurance coverage-related matters.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our insurance coverage operations.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless communication and coordination on insurance coverage matters.
- Stay up-to-date on changes in insurance coverage laws and regulations, and provide guidance to the team on compliance.
- Manage and prioritize multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, with a focus on delivering high-quality results.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including underwriting, SIU, and other departments.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to junior attorneys on insurance coverage matters.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience handling first and/or third-party personal auto insurance cases and coverage matters.
- Proven track record of being able to proficiently manage a full pending of case assignments.
- Ability to handle an inventory of 25+ files in addition to supervisory responsibilities for the team.
- Extensive knowledge of local and state discovery rules, trial procedures, and applicable substantive law, particularly relating to coverage matters.
- Experience presenting and cross-examining lay and expert witnesses.
- Experience directing support staff on clerical and administrative matters related to lawsuit handling.
- Experience trying cases.
- Experience working in a paperless electronic environment.
- Strong automation/technological skills for lawsuit handling and courtroom presentation.
- Experience taking EUOs in connection with SIU Investigations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience handling BI, UM, and auto physical damage coverage matters.
- Experience working in a hybrid flexible work environment.
- Strong software/technological skills, including competency in Word, Outlook, and Westlaw.
