Burns & McDonnell is a leading engineering, architecture, and construction company with a strong presence in the mission-critical data center market. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead our mechanical design teams and contribute to the success of our clients.

About the Role

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for leading mechanical design project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments. This includes power, process, corporate, healthcare, pipeline, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government, and military facilities. The successful candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead mechanical design project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments.
  • Develop and implement mechanical design plans, adapting to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.
  • Prepare mechanical equipment specifications, data sheets, RFQs, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
  • Review mechanical equipment vendor drawings, data interface with suppliers, clients, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Participate in project schedule, scope, budget, staffing planning, and construction planning.
  • Manage change orders effectively and apply expert knowledge of mechanical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures.
  • Quality review production drawings, project-related data, and construction administration.
  • Lead field inspections, installation, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
  • Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
  • Build effective relationships with clients, customers, and contractors, and develop new business opportunities.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 7 years of mechanical engineering experience, with EPC project experience preferred.
  • Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, NACE).
  • Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
Compensation and Benefits

The expected compensation range for this position is $155,000 - $215,000. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
