Responsibilities:- Monitor the conditions of individuals in their assigned worksite to detect changes in condition or responses to medication or therapy.
- Identify symptoms of illnesses and changes in conditions manifested by individuals and report such symptoms or changes to a physician or registered nurse.
- Take temperatures, pulse rates, blood pressures, and respiration rates using thermometers, manometers, and stethoscopes.
- Administer injectable, j-tube, and g-tube medications to assigned individuals.
- Implement and monitor g-tube and j-tube feedings, including changing g-tubes as necessary.
- Implement catheterization orders, trach care, deep oral and pharyngeal suctioning.
- Assist individuals in collecting urine, stool, and other specimens for analysis.
- Prepare and maintain charts and other records and treatments administered to document conditions and activities.
- Perform inventory of current medical supplies and medications to determine the need for ordering new supplies or medications.
- Perform direct care duties as assigned.
- A license and current registration to practice as a practical nurse in New York State.
- A limited permit to practice as a practical nurse in New York State.
- An application on file for a limited permit to practice as a practical nurse in New York State.
- A valid Driver's license.
- Thirteen paid holidays each year.
- Thirteen days of paid vacation leave initially.
- Five days paid personal leave each year.
- Thirteen days of paid sick leave each year.
- Up to three days professional leave each year to participate in professional development events.
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). HELPS Program titles may be filled via a non-competitive appointment. This means that you do not need to take an exam to qualify, but you do need to meet the minimum qualifications of the title.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to have their permanent non-competitive employment status converted to permanent competitive status. You will not have to take an exam to gain permanent competitive status.
