A Crisis Response Specialist, operating within the Utah Statewide CrisisLine telephonic system, will evaluate individuals facing a self-identified crisis, facilitating appropriate crisis stabilization and referrals.

This role may involve screening and triage, providing psycho-social support, and connecting individuals to suitable resources via call or text. Services also encompass collaboration with local mental health authorities throughout Utah.

Consequently, the Statewide CrisisLine functions as a 24/7 dispatch for Mobile Crisis Outreach Teams across the state.

Responsibilities


Engage actively and establish psychological contact, quickly forming a non-judgmental, understanding, and respectful relationship with every individual who reaches out to the Helpline.


Utilize open-ended questions to define and understand problems, obtaining a clear picture of the situation.

Employ closed-ended questions to gather information pertinent to the caller's safety, which may include suicide risk assessments.

Evaluate life-threatening situations, including suicide and/or homicide risks, assess safety, acuity/danger, and determine necessary medical services.

Efficiently mobilize community resources and devise plans to mitigate immediate threats or risks.

Maintain accurate records and implement policies (e.g., documenting essential notes during the same work shift for the benefit of subsequent workers).

Utilize the consultative process, knowing whom to contact under specific conditions.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Proficient typing skills of at least 30 WPM.


Exceptional customer service skills and a commitment to exceeding customer needs.

Proven excellence in both verbal and written communication.

Demonstrated computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.

Ability to maintain professionalism and high productivity in challenging situations.

Capability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Dependability in reporting to work punctually and minimizing absenteeism.

Awareness and sensitivity towards individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Basic knowledge of suicidology, including assessment of desire, intent, capability, and protective factors.

Familiarity with intervention strategies emphasizing safety and prevention, including active engagement and rescue.

Understanding of voluntary and involuntary hospitalization criteria and procedures.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Candidates must be eligible to apply for the State Crisis Worker Certification within one year through one of the following methods OR receive certification through an exemption from the State:

(a) Individuals licensed under Utah Department of Professional Licensing for any health or behavioral health license;

(b) Individuals holding a minimum of a bachelor's degree in a human service-related field;

(c) Individuals certified as a Certified Peer Support Specialist for at least one year;

(d) Individuals certified as Case Managers for at least one year; or

(e) Individuals certified as Family Resource Facilitators for at least one year.

Preferred Qualifications:

One year of experience in customer service.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Employees must be able to meet the following requirements with or without accommodation.

This is a sedentary role in an office environment that may require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects up to 10 pounds. The position involves primarily sitting and is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
