Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Independent Powertrain Design Engineer to join our team in Raymond, Ohio. As a key member of our development team, you will be responsible for creating engine part specifications that achieve an optimal balance between performance, cost, and manufacturability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create part development plans based on vehicle development schedules, part verification requirements, and lead times
  • Design conceptualization: Determine what aspects of assigned parts must be changed and/or verified, clarifying important design inputs and appropriate targets
  • Design execution: Establish rough 3D layout concepts and mature them into fully defined 3D models, considering manufacturing, assembly, and maintenance processes
  • Drawings creation and issuance: Define specifications in drawings to ensure parts are manufactured and assembled according to design inputs
  • BOM setting: Identify critical features of the vehicle for assigned parts, flagging impacted features for correction
  • Change Point Verification: Document and report evaluation events, assessing target achievement prospects
  • Cost calculation, correlation & reporting: Estimate costs for new designs, assessing supplier quotations and negotiating with purchasing
  • Internal & external collaboration: Communicate with related parties, including group leaders, technical experts, chief engineers, managers, factories, services, suppliers, purchasing, and test and design engineers
  • Document creation, reporting & follow-up: Create documentation for assigned parts, reporting in evaluation events, and responding to follow-up items

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • 3 years of previous product development experience (preferably automotive-related)
  • 3D parametric modeling, drawing creation, dimensioning, design for manufacturing/assembly, resolving cross-functional issues, cost estimation, and design optimization for cost
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, short-term, mid-term, and long-term scheduling

Work Environment:

The successful candidate will work primarily at a desk or meeting table, frequently using a keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Occasional standing, kneeling, squatting, reaching, bending, or lifting/transporting parts may be required. Overtime is expected based on project demands, with average travel of 1-5 times annually, including possible overseas travel.
