Job Summary

Cook County Health and Hospitals System is seeking a highly skilled Infectious Disease Physician to join our team. As an Attending Physician in Infectious Diseases, you will provide subspecialty-level consultative and direct care to adult patients with complex medical problems confirmed or suspected to be caused or complicated by infections.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide ID consultative care throughout CCH to complex surgical, obstetric, medical and/or critical care inpatients.
  • Provide direct primary care to adult inpatients with confirmed or suspected human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and/or other complex infectious diseases.
  • Provide direct ambulatory primary care to HIV-infected adult patients at the Ruth M. Rothstein CORE Center and/or Provident Hospital and other CCH ambulatory care facilities.
  • Provide subspecialty-level ambulatory care for patients with sexually transmitted infections, chronic viral hepatitis and/or other non-HIV related infection diseases.
  • Uphold all extant internal and external requirements for documenting patient-care activities, following infection control and medication utilization practices, interacting with consultant medical and allied healthcare providers and ensuring timely and appropriate follow-up care for each of the inpatient and outpatient care activities described above.
  • Provide direct clinical supervision and adheres to internal and external regulatory requirements related to the performance and evaluation of assigned advanced nurse practitioners and/or physician assistants working in the ambulatory and inpatient settings.
  • Attend on each of the inpatient and outpatient care activities described above to provide direct clinical supervision of medical students, residents and ID fellows assigned to these services.
  • Conduct regular teaching conferences for medical students, medical residents and/or ID fellows on CORE ID topics as assigned by the ID Division Chair.
  • Attend and participate as a presenter or discussant in weekly case and didactic conferences, including weekly Grand Rounds conferences organized by the Department of Medicine.
  • Attend and participate regularly in divisional and departmental administrative meetings.
  • Participate in or lead the Infection Control, Anti-Infective, CORE Research or other CORE or hospital quality improvement activities or committees as assigned by the ID Division Chair.
  • Contribute to the design, performance, analysis and presentation of ID-related research regularly, including applications for intramural and extramural grant funding and for approval by applicable institutional review boards.
Requirements
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical college or university.
  • Must be licensed as a physician and surgeon in the State of Illinois-or have the ability to obtain license prior to starting employment.
  • Successful completion of a residency program in Internal medicine accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
  • Successful completion of a Fellowship Program in Infectious Diseases accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
  • Board certified or board eligible in Infectious Diseases by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
  • Must be able to travel to Cook County Health work sites.
  • Current and valid Illinois Controlled Substances License-or-have the ability to obtain license prior to starting employment.
  • Current and valid licensure with the Federal DEA-or-have the ability to obtain license prior to starting employment.

  • Language skills in Spanish preferred.
  • Experience in conducting clinical research.
  • Experience in teaching and training colleagues and students.
