POSITION SUMMARY:
This role engages with patients to facilitate the collection of overdue patient accounts.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Involves extended periods of sitting, standing, and occasional bending, stooping, stretching, or walking.

Requires adequate eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate a computer, photocopier, fax machine, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment.

Normal hearing and vision capabilities are necessary to prepare and communicate relevant reports.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is conducted in an office setting, with interactions involving patients, office personnel, and medical staff.
Overtime may be necessary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responds to and manages phone inquiries related to outstanding account balances.
- Performs general filing tasks as needed.
- Collaborates with physicians or their representatives regarding patient account issues.
- Establishes financial arrangements with patients for payment.
- Engages with collection agencies as required.
- Defines and oversees budget payment programs, ensuring patient compliance with agreements.
- Drafts correspondence as necessary.
- Follows up on Bankruptcy Accounts and processes for Deceased Patient Accounts.
- Regularly updates the collection module with new statuses.
- Tracks and follows up on returned mail.
- Sends form letters to patients to encourage payment of overdue accounts.
- Communicates with patients via phone to ascertain reasons for overdue payments, reviewing credit policy terms.
- Records details regarding the financial status of patients and the progress of collection efforts.
- Processes patient receipts in accordance with established standards.
- Returns all voicemail messages within a 24-hour timeframe.
- Participates in staff meetings and contributes to special committees.
- Undertakes additional duties and assignments as necessary.

- Completes tasks accurately and in a timely fashion.

- Fosters effective working relationships with physicians, administration, and other staff members.
- Must be flexible to work occasional evenings or weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting, such as a private practice or hospital, is preferred.
- Familiarity with insurance billing processes, including CPT and ICD-10 coding.
- Comprehensive understanding of the hospital admission process.
