Position Title: Educational Assessment Specialist

Job Classification: Exempt

Reports To: Director of Special Education

Department: Special Education

Primary Objective:
To execute the assessment process for special education. Evaluate the educational needs, learning preferences, and program requirements of students referred for special education services. Deliver diagnostic insights and collaborate with instructional staff to ensure the most suitable programs for students with disabilities.

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master's degree in educational assessment
Valid teaching certification
Valid educational diagnostician certification

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Understanding of diagnostic methodologies, education for special needs students, human development, and learning theories
Strong organizational, communication, computer, and interpersonal abilities

Experience:
Minimum of two years of teaching experience.

Key Responsibilities:
Assessment Duties:

  1. Receive referrals and initiate the assessment and evaluation process.
  2. Select and administer both formal and informal assessments to determine student eligibility for special education services in accordance with relevant regulations.
  3. Gather and organize pertinent assessment data from various sources, including student records, teachers, parents, and related service personnel.
  4. Conduct classroom observations and interviews with teachers and parents for assessment purposes.
  5. Perform Full and Individual Evaluations (FIE) and prepare eligibility reports while adhering to state and federal guidelines.
  6. Interpret assessment results and provide instructional recommendations for educators and administrators.
  7. Collaborate with other assessment professionals to establish eligibility and implement special education services.
  8. Assist in facilitating Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee meetings, providing insights on assessment data for appropriate placement and development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  9. Ensure compliance with all assessment requirements as per state and federal guidelines.
Consultation Responsibilities:
  1. Coordinate and notify all parties for ARD Committee meetings.
  2. Provide training to school personnel on identifying and understanding students with disabilities, IEP development, and related procedures.
  3. Support classroom teachers in implementing IEPs and Behavior Implementation Plans (BIPs).
  4. Engage with parents regarding the educational needs of students and the interpretation of assessment data.
  5. Participate in home visits to enhance communication with students and parents.
Program Management:
  1. Foster effective relationships with students and parents.
  2. Assist in selecting assessment materials and equipment.
  3. Evaluate the assessment program continuously and implement improvements based on findings.
  4. Maintain accurate records and ensure confidentiality of all documents.
  5. Stay informed about the latest research, data, and policies in the assessment field through professional development.
Communication:
  1. Maintain positive relationships with staff and supervisors.
  2. Communicate effectively with district staff, students, parents, and outside agencies.
Additional Duties:
  1. Support other diagnosticians as needed.
  2. Exhibit punctuality and a strong work ethic.
  3. Perform other assigned duties as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
Working Conditions:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Regular travel to multiple work locations may be required. Moderate lifting and carrying may be necessary. Occasional extended hours may be expected.
