Job Summary:

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse and medical orders from a Practitioner, this Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will provide direct and indirect nursing care in an outpatient setting. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a strong attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Reviews and prepares medical records for assigned patients, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Initiates follow-up for medical records as requested and reviews patient needs to identify areas for improvement.
  • Prepares orders for patient needs and obtains authorization from the Practitioner, adhering to policy and procedure.
  • Observes, collects, and documents new information on patients, informing the RN or Practitioner of any incomplete data, new observations, or abnormal/unusual findings.
  • Administers treatments, immunizations, and medications as prescribed by the Practitioner, ensuring patient safety and well-being.
  • Performs point-of-care testing as authorized and provides laboratory, x-ray, and other reports to the Practitioner for review.
  • Notifies patients of normal results as directed by the Practitioner and considers special needs of different age groups when providing care.
  • Records findings, instructions, and patient responses on appropriate forms or online records, adhering to department and JCAHO standards.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Observes patients' and families' responses to the care plan and reports unexpected responses to the RN or Practitioner.
  • Collaborates with the RN/Practitioner to revise the care plan as needed.
  • Participates in orientation of new personnel and demonstrates sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities in the area of specialization.
  • Maintains current knowledge and skills needed to perform the position and attends and participates in staff meetings as needed.
  • Performs other duties and accepts responsibility as assigned within scope.
Requirements:
  • Experience: N/A
  • Education: Hawaii State Board of Nursing-approved curriculum for LPN licensure
  • License, Certification, Registration: Licensed Practical Nurse (Hawaii) required at hire
  • Basic Life Support from American Heart Association
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous nursing experience
  • Previous clinic experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in word processing and spreadsheet PC applications
Work Environment:

This position is located at Kaiser Permanente's Hilo Medical Offices and requires 20 hours of scheduled work per week. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and have excellent communication skills.
