Position Overview:
QinetiQ US is in search of TARS Operational Support Personnel for roles such as Flight Specialists, Machinery Maintenance Mechanics, and Electronics Technicians. These positions will serve critical functions such as Flight Directors, Nose Line Handlers, Line Handlers, Winch Operators, and Control Center personnel in support of the DHS Customs & Border Protection Tethered Aerostat Radar System (TARS) initiative.
Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will possess direct experience with TARS, TASS, or PSS-T as an operational support individual or prior program support.
Each team member will function as part of the operational crew in a 24/7 environment, engaging in aerostat pre-launch, launch, ascent, transition, station keeping, and recovery.
Candidates should have experience in one of the following roles:Flight Director:
Oversees and executes all aerostat electronic subsystem preflight and post-flight inspections as necessary.
Monitors local weather conditions and trends that may impact mission support.
Coordinates with the TARS Control Center, Meteorological Forecast Facilities, and other relevant Government agencies.
Maintains flight system weight logs and weight and balance records for the operational aerostat.
Assesses aerostat lift and purity trends, reporting any anomalies to management and suggesting corrective measures.
Utilizes advanced technical knowledge to address complex issues that cannot be resolved solely by referring to manufacturers' manuals or similar documents.
Conducts corrective and preventive maintenance on the aerostat telemetry and control subsystems, power and control subsystems, tether subsystem, meteorological equipment, ground station electronic subsystems, payload and communications subsystems, and site facility electronics as required.
Machinery Maintenance Mechanic:
Employs advanced technical expertise and experience in overall aerostat system operations and maintenance that may not be achievable solely through reference to manufacturer's manuals or similar TARS O&M documentation.
Operates the aerostat launch/recovery control systems, including backup systems.
Directs and performs corrective and preventive maintenance on the aerostat pressure and control subsystems, power subsystems, mechanical and hydraulic subsystems, aerostat hardware and rigging, tether subsystem, and aerostat envelope.
Oversees operations and maintenance of compressed-gas equipment, including helium transfers to the aerostat for inflation and replenishment.
Trains and certifies other personnel in selected aerostat system procedures and the proper operation of all aerostat special purpose vehicles (e.g., Hi-Rangers, self-propelled aerial platforms, forklifts).
Electronics Technician:
Applies advanced technical knowledge to resolve complex problems in electronic equipment.
Serves as a key member of the flight crew for inflation, deflation, launch, recovery, maintenance, and in-flight activities.
Conducts corrective and preventive maintenance on the aerostat telemetry and control subsystems, power and control subsystems, tether subsystem, meteorological equipment, ground station electronic subsystems, payload and communications subsystems, and site facility electronics as necessary.
Trains and certifies other personnel in selected aerostat electronic subsystem procedures.
Exercises independent judgment in tasks such as circuit analyses, waveform calculations, tracing signal flow relationships, and regularly using complex testing instruments (e.g., dual trace oscilloscopes, Qmeters, deviation meters, pulse generators).
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED
5 years of direct experience with Aerostat related systems (specifically for Flight Director)
2 years of industry-related experience (for other listed positions)
Successful completion of a Background Investigation with a Favorable Suitability Determination, and issuance of DHS Suitability determination.
Valid U.S. Driver's license required.
Fluency in English, including the ability to understand, speak, read, and write.
Proof of U.S. residency required.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to climb ladders.
Ability to work from elevated platforms of 8 feet or higher for extended periods.
Ability to work in narrow and confined spaces under elevated temperatures.
Physical activities required include: walking, standing, stooping, bending, twisting, crawling, reaching, lifting, sitting, and squatting.
Work may involve walking, standing, sitting, and operating in confined spaces or at high elevations for extended periods.
Weight lifting requirement of 60-80 lbs and ability to climb.Preferred Qualifications:
