Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Commercial Driver plays a vital role in the efficient and secure transportation of solar panels and associated materials to various distribution points, construction sites, and clientele. This position is essential in maintaining the integrity of the supply chain, ensuring that products are delivered in optimal condition, thereby supporting the timely execution of solar energy initiatives. The driver is expected to uphold exemplary standards of safety, operational efficiency, and customer interaction while representing the organization with professionalism on the road and during deliveries.

Additional Responsibilities:

During peak periods, the Commercial Driver will assist in warehouse operations. In this capacity, the driver will work alongside warehouse personnel to effectively manage the receipt, storage, and distribution of solar products and related materials, utilizing forklifts and other warehouse machinery to guarantee the safe and prompt delivery of goods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Onsite Deliveries (80%):
    • Maintain accurate Electronic Driver Logs and conduct thorough Pre-Trip and Post-Trip vehicle inspections.
    • Adhere to DOT regulations, including random drug and alcohol testing.
    • Deliver exceptional service to customers through effective communication during the unloading process.
    • Possess comprehensive knowledge of all company products and services.
    • Load vehicles and verify the accuracy of orders, ensuring compliance with weight limits and secure load practices.
    • Keep precise records for submission to the Fleet Department.
    • Report any mechanical issues promptly to the Fleet Department to ensure vehicle safety.
    • Utilize appropriate safety gear consistently, including hard hats and steel-toed footwear.
    • Address any incidents of property damage or personal injury immediately, including calling for medical assistance if necessary.
    • Perform warehouse tasks such as picking, packing, and shipping as required.
    • Operate warehouse forklifts for inventory management.
  • Warehouse Duties (20%):
    • Provide quality service to customers through effective communication.
    • Verify and manually unload incoming shipments.
    • Accurately pick, pack, and ship products/orders.
    • Ensure the safety and efficiency of helpers on-site and during transit.
    • Maintain cleanliness and organization within the warehouse.
    • Utilize forklifts for inventory movement.

Qualifications:

  • Experience operating a Truck Mounted Forklift (TMF) is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of driving experience with the relevant vehicle type (combination vehicle with flatbed and TMF).
  • Understanding of DOT legal strapping requirements.
  • Basic proficiency in English, including reading and writing skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and self-motivation.
  • Exceptional customer service abilities.
  • Effective listening, reading, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail and time management.
  • Basic math skills for calculations in various units of measure.
  • Ability to build relationships across all organizational levels.
  • Basic technical skills for data entry and communication.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • A valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License and DOT Medical Card are mandatory.
  • Forklift Training/Certification is advantageous.
  • Training/Certification for Truck Mounted Forklift is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Samsara software for maintaining Electronic Driver Logs is a plus.
  • Must meet all DOT requirements, including physical examinations and drug screenings.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is:

  • Regularly required to sit, communicate, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Able to move 2,500 lbs using a pallet jack.
  • Occasionally required to bend, kneel, crouch, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
  • Occasionally and repeatedly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, with team lifts for up to 150 pounds.
  • Required to have specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

Travel Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel between 5% to 10% of the time.
