Advocate for Safe Shelter Services

The Safe Center LI, a leading provider of services to victims of interpersonal violence in Nassau County, is seeking a dedicated Safe Home Advocate to join their team. This role is ideal for an individual who is passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of those affected by domestic violence and other forms of abuse.
Job Summary:The Safe Home Advocate will provide comprehensive support services to clients residing at the agency's 17-bed communal living facility. This includes advocating on behalf of clients with government agencies, schools, and other entities, as well as providing information, referrals, and crisis intervention over the phone.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Provide advocacy and accompaniment services for adult and child clients, including accompaniment to appointments and meetings.
- Answer calls from the agency hotline and provide information, referrals, and crisis intervention.
- Conduct follow-ups with potential clients who have reported instances of interpersonal violence.
- Input data on the agency's response to reports of interpersonal violence.
- Transport clients to necessary appointments using agency vehicles.
- Conduct shelter intakes and orientation of new clients.
- Clean and prepare rooms when clients leave, process client belongings for health and safety.
- Assist clients in learning how to use public transportation and become acquainted with surrounding community resources.
- Provide safety planning for client travel, technology use, and other related matters.
- Monitor daily activities of clients while in the house, respond to phone and door calls.
- Assist with monitoring of children when necessary.
- Use shelter's fire and security system, conduct monthly fire drills.
- Maintain logs detailing distribution of funds, metro cards, etc.
- Daily entries in client database and log, detailing client engagement.
- Ordering/shopping for house items such as bedding, food, toiletries, toys, etc.
- Inventory and management of groceries, household, office, and emergency preparedness supplies.
- Distribute personal care, household, and baby-related items to clients.
- Organizing special events and celebrations.
- Conduct weekly house meetings and creative workshops.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
- Associates Degree and/or one year of relevant work experience, including paid or volunteer work with victims of domestic violence and/or human services.
- Residential and/or shelter experience preferred.
- A competitive salary of $38,000 per year, with additional compensation for bilingual candidates and weekend shift coverage.
