Job Overview

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the design and enhancement of manufacturing processes tailored for products in the gas and liquid chromatography sectors. Leveraging a robust foundation in chemistry, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and engineering principles, this role focuses on innovating new manufacturing techniques while also enhancing the quality, safety, productivity, and efficiency of current processes. This position is available at either a level II or III, depending on the candidate's qualifications and experience.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Oversee the engineering processes in designated areas, establishing and implementing strategies while coordinating with junior engineers as necessary.
  2. Maintain engineering standards: Proactively monitor and address process challenges, ensuring safe manufacturing practices, high-quality output, and timely delivery.
  3. New product integration: Conduct evaluations and scaling of new or existing manufacturing technologies and processes. Execute experiments and gather data to support products within the designated area.
  4. Process enhancement: Identify and pursue opportunities for improving processes and productivity. Develop, validate, and implement enhancements, while assisting in the formulation of improvement strategies.
  5. Documentation: Record experiments and procedures meticulously. Review documentation for precision and thoroughness. Prepare reports detailing experimental designs, outcomes, and conclusions, and circulate them for feedback from relevant departments. Communicate project progress through reports and during meetings, ensuring documentation remains current.
  6. Training: Educate manufacturing staff on new procedures, processes, raw material testing, specifications, product handling, equipment usage, and final product testing.
  7. Professional development: Stay informed on relevant methods by participating in seminars, workshops, and ongoing education.
  8. Safety practices: Adhere to safe working protocols and follow guidelines set by the Environmental Health and Safety Department. Comprehend process safety requirements and the safe handling of materials relevant to job responsibilities.
  9. Additional duties: Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience: A Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering or a related field is required, along with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience for level II consideration. Higher-level positions necessitate additional experience and/or education.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in applying fundamental concepts of chemistry, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics to chromatography applications.
  • Capable of managing moderately complex tasks with a solid understanding of core responsibilities and processes, operating with minimal supervision.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, with the ability to resolve complex issues.
  • Demonstrated experience with statistical methods and techniques.
  • Able to collaborate effectively in a team environment and contribute to project initiatives.
  • Competent in computer usage, including spreadsheets, word processing, statistical analysis, and database applications. Proficiency in CAD is advantageous.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in process engineering, process development, or product development.
  • Familiarity with process statistics and problem-solving methodologies.
