JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE : HOME REPAIR MECHANIC I - HOUSING

DEFINITION : Under the guidance of the Production Manager, this role involves executing high-quality home repairs, procuring materials as needed, and completing authorized repairs in residences assigned by the Housing Department for various home repair and modification initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Education:

A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory. Proficiency in reading and writing English is essential.

Experience:

A minimum of four years of full-time experience in the construction trades is required.

Capabilities:

Knowledgeable in all aspects of building repairs, including plumbing, electrical work, and carpentry. Capable of independently performing quality carpentry, plumbing, and electrical tasks that do not necessitate building permits or licenses. Ability to assess when a repair issue exceeds the program's scope and to inform the supervisor accordingly.

Additional Requirements:

Possession of hand tools, a valid driver's license with a clean driving record (no infractions for the past three years), reliable transportation and car liability insurance. DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS :

a. Conducts repairs in residences as specified in work orders, ensuring compliance with established quality, quantity, and safety standards.

b. Verifies that all necessary materials are present at the job site before commencing work and reports any shortages.

c. Accurately reports starting and ending times for each job, maintaining communication to keep the office informed of the mechanic's location at all times. Keeps detailed records of travel, inventory, work hours on site, and other required documentation.

d. Collaborates effectively with fellow Home Repair Mechanics to enhance and refine technical skills.

e. Notifies the Production Manager of any unusual issues or situations involving elderly homeowners that may require follow-up by a Social Worker.

f. Maintains mandatory inventory and requests necessary items through the Materials Coordinator.

g. Takes responsibility for all tools and materials provided by the organization.

h. Instructs homeowners on the operation of new items and ensures the work area is clean before departure.

i. Performs additional duties as assigned by the Production Manager or their designate.
