Job Description

Montgomery College, a leading institution in technology education, is seeking a full-time Computer Science and Cybersecurity faculty member to join our team. As a regional leader in delivering technology education, we offer a range of programs, including Computer Science and Technologies and Cybersecurity associates degrees, as well as certificates and non-credit courses. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who can motivate and educate students in an engaging manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach a range of introductory and advanced courses in computer science and cybersecurity, including courses such as Introduction to Programming, Network Security, UNIX/LINUX System Administration, and Defending the Network.
  • Deliver assigned courses in accordance with college catalog descriptions, discipline course syllabus standards, and any other discipline or college stipulations.
  • Use platforms such as Blackboard and other relevant technologies or web-based content, including inexpensive or no-cost resources (OERs), into the development and delivery of instruction.
  • Advise, mentor, tutor, and advocate for students, including supporting student scholarship, research, and/or internship opportunities, consulting with students about career opportunities and/or transfer options, and participating in student club activities or enrichment events.
  • Maintain an active program of professional development and seek ongoing professional growth that includes the acquisition of knowledge and skills relevant to both effective pedagogy in their discipline and fostering equity and inclusion both in the classroom and in the broader College community.
  • Serve on departmental, campus, and college committees, participate in department, discipline, area, and college meetings, hold office hours, advise students, develop new curricula and supervise undergraduate research projects, participate in grant activities, and participate in professional organizations and activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree or higher in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a closely related field. Master's degree must be completed by December 2024.
  • Teaching experience in secondary or higher education or in a professional training program or industry.
  • Experience designing and/or setting up hands-on labs.
  • Knowledge of Linux, Windows (client and server) environments, firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, penetration testing, vulnerability assessment, wireless security, incident response, and/or digital forensics.
  • Proficiency with at least one programming language (such as Python, C++, or Java).
  • Knowledge of systems analysis and design and of theory of algorithms.
  • Proficiency with and ability to use a Learning Management System (LMS) and other web-based instructional technology to facilitate learning in a web-enhanced environment.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching using a variety of delivery methods, online resources and technology applications across the curriculum.
  • Faculty members are expected to have access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location (i.e., office, classroom, college campus). Montgomery College (MC) provides an MC e-mail account and access to the learning platform, password-protected faculty sections of the website, college listservs, and other faculty communications tools
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hold a CompTIA Security+ and other professional certifications (i.e., CISSP, CEH, other security industry certifications, CompTIA Cloud+ or a compatible one from a major cloud provider such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google, IBM or Oracle).
  • At least two semesters of recent full-time teaching experience or its equivalent in a higher education institution or in a professional training program or industry.
  • Experience teaching about Linux, Windows (client and server) environments, firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, penetration testing, vulnerability assessment, wireless security, incident response, and/or digital forensics.
  • Experience teaching programming languages (such as Python, C++, or Java), systems analysis and design, and/or theory of algorithms.
  • Two (2) or more years of industry experience in cybersecurity or a related technology field.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive and equitable teaching practices along with the skills, knowledge, and awareness necessary to effectively support a diverse student population.
  • Experience teaching a wide range of courses offered by the department.
  • Ability to integrate technology into course delivery to appropriately support or enhance student learning, including use of a Learning Management System and/or teaching distance courses.

Hiring Range: $62,319 to $94,876
