Job Summary: The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the in-school suspension program, ensuring a structured environment for students assigned to the program within Alexandria City High School-Chance for Change. This position will work closely with administrative staff and classroom teachers to coordinate academic activities, instruct students on replacement behaviors, and provide assistance in completing assigned work.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Promote adherence to established rules and regulations of the in-school suspension program and create an effective climate for learning.
  2. Serve as a liaison between administrative staff, classroom teacher, and students assigned to the program to obtain and return student's daily class work and homework.
  3. Assist students assigned to the program with completing their regular classroom assignments.
  4. Instruct students on replacement behaviors through the use of social skills curriculum and restorative practices.
  5. Communicate appropriate behavior, school rules, and regulations to students in the program.
  6. Communicate with students the reasons for their ISS assignment and allow students to reflect on their behaviors and its impact on their education.
  7. Instruct, guide, and encourage students to develop a positive attitude toward learning.
  8. Monitor students who have been assigned to in-school suspension and review student progress.
  9. Develop and implement data collection protocol to include but not limited; to student monitoring and progress monitoring of grades and behavior
  10. Communicate with parents and classroom teachers regarding student behavior and progress.
  11. Report inappropriate behavior by students to professional staff members.
  12. Report effectiveness of program to administrative staff and make suggestions for improvement.

Clearances: Candidates must possess a valid Virginia Department of Education license or eligibility to obtain one. Additionally, they must undergo a background clearance and provide proof of COVID vaccination or exemption.

Estimated Salary: $65,000 - $85,000 per year based on experience.
