Academic Mentor Position at Virginia Commonwealth University

The Office of Student-Athlete Support Services is dedicated to promoting academic success among student-athletes. As an Athletic Tutor, you will play a crucial role in helping students who are struggling academically or need additional support to develop their skills and knowledge.
CompensationThe salary for this position ranges from $13.00 to $15.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
Job ResponsibilitiesYour key responsibilities as an Athletic Tutor will include:
- Conducting weekly sessions with students to promote independent learning and help them develop essential study skills.
- Identifying and addressing specific study skill needs for each student during the tutorial session.
- Communicating effectively with students to ensure that they understand the material and are able to apply it effectively.
- Creating and submitting accurate records of sessions with student-athletes by the specified deadline.
- Maintaining a high level of knowledge in academic areas selected to tutor, ensuring that you can provide expert guidance and support to students.
- Familiarity with NCAA regulations and other relevant policies governing the tutoring of student-athletes.
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and qualifications:
- Completed at least 40 credits of coursework, with a strong academic record.
- Minimum 3.2 cumulative undergraduate and/or graduate GPA, demonstrating your ability to succeed academically.
- Availability to work a minimum of 12 hours a week from the first day of classes to the end of final exams.
- Excellent communication skills, including verbal and written communication, to effectively interact with students and colleagues.
- Patient and encouraging attitude to help students build confidence and develop their skills.
