Job Summary

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist II is responsible for implementing and maintaining a comprehensive EHS program at our Madison facility. This role works closely with various departments to ensure safety is integrated into daily work plans and schedules. The Specialist also ensures compliance with all regulatory reporting requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the execution of an effective EHS program that meets all regulatory requirements.
  • Draft necessary SOPs covering EHS-related activities.
  • Provide training on EHS procedures and policies.
  • Assist in ensuring audit program is implemented and followed.
  • Conduct and update risk assessments with assistance from the EHS Manager.
  • Partner with the EHS Manager to coordinate the SDS program.
  • Conduct annual agency reporting with assistance from the EHS Manager.
  • Lead the Safety Committee members through scheduled monthly meetings and help conduct monthly site audits.
  • Lead the Safety Committee in developing metrics for measuring audit response time and establishing timelines for implementing various EHS programs.
  • Implement Continuous Improvement opportunities as identified.
  • Ensure contractor EHS compliance and work with various departments.
  • Conduct incident reporting with workers' comp and annual reporting to OSHA.
Requirements
  • M.S./M.A. in EHS, Biotechnology, or related field with no prior experience; or
  • B.S./B.A. in EHS, Biotechnology, or related field with minimum of 3 years experience in related field; or
  • Associates Degree/Certificate/Diploma in EHS or related field with minimum of 4 years experience in related field; or
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 6 years experience in related field.
  • Relevant professional certifications (ASP, CSP, CIH) a plus.
  • OSHA reporting requirements.
  • Understanding of GMP regulations, documentation, and requirements.
  • Hazardous waste management experience.
  • Understanding interaction procedures with various regulatory agencies.
  • Familiar with ISO 45001 Standard implementation and program maintenance.
