Job Summary

The University of New Mexico's College of Education and Human Sciences is seeking a Lecturer in Special Education Teacher Preparation. The successful candidate will have experience and expertise in preK-12 special education classroom teaching and will be responsible for supervising students in field placements, advising students, and teaching courses specific to the preparation of special educators to serve the diverse needs of students with disabilities in inclusive settings.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise students in field placements
  • Advise students
  • Teach courses specific to the preparation of special educators
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Special Education Department
  • Assist with the coordination of the Dual License program
Qualifications
  • Graduate degree in Special Education or a closely related field
  • Active teaching license in Special Education
  • Minimum three years' experience teaching students with a wide range of special education needs
Preferred Qualifications
  • Robust and current formal academic preparation in teacher preparation in inclusive settings from historically marginalized communities
  • Extensive preK-12 teaching experience working with students with a wide range of special education needs from historically marginalized communities in inclusive settings
  • Excellence or potential for excellence in teaching undergraduate licensure courses
  • Potential for excellence in supervision of teacher candidates, including those from historically marginalized communities
  • Potential for excellence in coordinating a special education teacher preparation program
  • Evidence of successful collaborations, especially with historically marginalized communities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
