Amergis is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing quality services to special education students, kindergarten through grade 12.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement individualized education plans in consultation with parents and department team members.
- Support students with diverse learning needs, including those with physical, emotional, and mental disabilities.
- Design and deliver instruction that parallels the general education curriculum, both individually and in small groups.
- Collaborate with parents, administrators, and other professionals to develop educational plans that promote students' growth and development.
- Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Coordinate the implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs) with general education staff.
- Monitor student progress, participate in IEP reviews, and maintain accurate student records.
- Mentor and support teaching assistants who provide support to students with disabilities.
- Assist students in preparing for grade transitions and life skills.
- Assess students' skills and educational needs, tracking their performance and progress.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to maintain positive relationships.
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university (preferred).
- Valid state teaching certificate as required by state, contract, or district regulations.
- Minimum of one year experience in a teaching environment (preferred).
- State Teacher Certification (Standard Elementary, Secondary, or Special Teaching preferred).
- Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) (preferred).
- Compliance with all relevant professional standards of practice.
- Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program (when applicable).
- Current CPR certification (if applicable).
- TB Questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray (if applicable).
- Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
- Meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
- Successful completion of new hire training (as applicable to the job site).
- Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
- Strong communication skills and proficiency in the English language.
- Computer proficiency.
- Age 18 or older.
