About the Role

Amergis is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing quality services to special education students, kindergarten through grade 12.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans in consultation with parents and department team members.
  • Support students with diverse learning needs, including those with physical, emotional, and mental disabilities.
  • Design and deliver instruction that parallels the general education curriculum, both individually and in small groups.
  • Collaborate with parents, administrators, and other professionals to develop educational plans that promote students' growth and development.
  • Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Coordinate the implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs) with general education staff.
  • Monitor student progress, participate in IEP reviews, and maintain accurate student records.
  • Mentor and support teaching assistants who provide support to students with disabilities.
  • Assist students in preparing for grade transitions and life skills.
  • Assess students' skills and educational needs, tracking their performance and progress.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to maintain positive relationships.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university (preferred).
  • Valid state teaching certificate as required by state, contract, or district regulations.
  • Minimum of one year experience in a teaching environment (preferred).
  • State Teacher Certification (Standard Elementary, Secondary, or Special Teaching preferred).
  • Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) (preferred).
  • Compliance with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program (when applicable).
  • Current CPR certification (if applicable).
  • TB Questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray (if applicable).
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training (as applicable to the job site).
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in the English language.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Age 18 or older.
