JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Engineering Technician provides technical assistance to the engineering team in a laboratory environment. Build, prototype, test, and debug circuits.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical assistance to the engineers with prototyping and rework
  • Build and debug prototype assemblies, including surface mount technology (SMT) soldering
  • Build, debug, and maintain production test fixtures and automated test equipment
  • Maintain the engineering laboratory including supplies and equipment
  • Order parts and components needed to fabricate prototypes
  • Assist production with testing and troubleshooting
  • Create and maintain test procedure documentation
  • Other duties as required

Level of Responsibility:

  • Employee works under general supervision
  • Employee makes decisions within clearly prescribed areas referring matters that fall outside that area to others
  • The employee has little or no impact on the decisions of others

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Soldering (through hole, SMT, solder paste/stencil, hot air reflow)
  • Ability to diagnose and debug electronic circuits
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to be adaptive to changing priorities
  • Organizational skills to maintain lab equipment/inventory and documentation
  • Position requires employee to utilize and understand simple formatting and use of Microsoft products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Education and Experience:

  • Associates Degree or equivalent in Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years experience as an electronics technician or similar

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this job.

Physical Demands/Efforts:

  • Possible prolonged periods of standing or sitting may be required
  • Moves equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Position self to install equipment including under desks

Mental & Visual Demands/Efforts:

  • Considerable mental concentration to effectively execute complex tasks
  • Visual: use magnification equipment for SMT soldering
  • Work requires continuous visual effort for extended periods of time

Work Environment and Hazards:

  • Exposure to hazards that could result in injury and loss of time at work
  • Some areas of the building are not climate-controlled
  • Some exposure to heat, dust or other factors of minor inconvenience
  • Hazards are soldering irons, solder, related chemicals
  • Occasional travel
