About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Director of Development for Humanities and Social Sciences to join our Advancement team at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). As a key member of our development team, you will be responsible for leading the major and principal gift fundraising efforts for the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences at Caltech.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy for the Division, including identifying and cultivating major and principal gift prospects, and soliciting gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director of Individual Giving, Vice President of Advancement, and other stakeholders to develop and implement fundraising plans and strategies that align with the Institute's goals and objectives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including faculty, alumni, and donors, to advance the mission and goals of the Division and the Institute.
  • Develop and implement donor stewardship and recognition programs to ensure that donors are engaged and appreciated.
  • Work closely with the Advancement Communications team to develop compelling case statements and other fundraising materials that showcase the impact of philanthropy at Caltech.
  • Manage a portfolio of major and principal gift prospects and donors, and develop and implement strategies to cultivate and solicit gifts from these individuals.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to colleagues on fundraising best practices, and participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on industry trends and best practices.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible development experience.
  • Proven track record of success in major and principal gift fundraising, including raising six-figure gifts from individuals.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing comprehensive fundraising strategies, and managing a portfolio of major and principal gift prospects and donors.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, and to provide leadership and guidance to colleagues.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to think critically and strategically.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree.
  • Proven experience raising seven and eight-figure gifts from individuals.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising for science or engineering-related centers.
  • Familiarity with Excel and PowerPoint.
