Medical Malpractice Defense Paralegal Job Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Malpractice Defense Paralegal to join our team at Liberty Personnel Services, Inc.

About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity for a paralegal with a strong understanding of medical terminology and healthcare practices to support attorneys in defending healthcare providers and institutions against malpractice claims.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in assisting attorneys throughout all stages of litigation, from initial investigation through trial. This position requires exceptional organizational and communication skills, as well as a strong attention to detail.

We offer a competitive salary range of $65,000 - $70,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Case Management: Organize and maintain case files, including medical records, legal documents, and correspondence.
  • Medical Record Review: Obtain, review, and analyze medical records to identify relevant information and potential defenses.
  • Discovery: Prepare and respond to discovery requests, including interrogatories, requests for production of documents, and requests for admissions.
  • Legal Research: Conduct legal research using online databases (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) to support legal arguments and case strategy.
  • Document Preparation: Draft legal documents, such as pleadings, motions, subpoenas, and trial exhibits.
  • Expert Witness Coordination: Assist in locating and communicating with expert witnesses, including scheduling depositions and preparing expert reports.
  • Trial Preparation: Assist attorneys in preparing for trial, including organizing exhibits, preparing witness files, and coordinating logistics.
  • Client Communication: Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel as needed.
Requirements
  • A paralegal certificate or associate's degree in paralegal studies preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a paralegal, preferably in medical malpractice defense.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology and healthcare practices.
  • Knowledge of New Jersey court rules and procedures.
  • Proficiency in legal research databases (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
