Support the daily operations of Quality Technicians, focusing on proactive assessment of internal processes rather than merely verifying physical compliance. Responsibilities include auditing safety protocols, conducting layered process audits, and reviewing standard work/control plans. Analyze process outputs to evaluate process capability, including stability and capability (Cpk). Oversee the generation and implementation of corrective actions.
Generate comprehensive reports on calibration and inspection activities. Ensure the effective execution of the company's calibration system, which applies to all measurement and testing equipment used for assessing the acceptability of components and assemblies in Wagner products. This includes equipment in engineering and quality test labs, production areas, and occasionally at supplier locations. Assist in performing detailed First Article Inspections on various manufactured components and assemblies to ensure compliance with specifications. Communicate inspection results through appropriate documentation, such as First Article Inspection Reports, SAP movements, and quality notifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance and training on process auditing and validation techniques, as well as Wagner practices and procedures to Quality Technicians.
- Conduct audits and process validations across various manufacturing processes. Prepare first article inspection reports for a range of parts, including critical components with tight tolerances, utilizing precision measurement and testing equipment. Process audits inform management and quality engineers about production readiness and process capability, while First Article Inspection Reports aid in production approval for both in-house and supplier components and assemblies.
- Develop software programs for CMM inspections of components.
- Manage the company's calibration program, including equipment in our certified satellite test lab, adhering to ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
- Perform calibrations on a variety of precision inspection and testing equipment.
- Assist in the development of calibration procedures for in-house calibrated equipment. Maintain records of calibrations to comply with ISO 9001 quality system requirements, utilizing a computerized system for equipment serialization, calibration dates, methods, resources, and results.
- Recommend equipment needs for inspection and testing. Assist in preparing justifications for capital investments and purchase orders for inspection and testing equipment.
- Investigate quality issues in components and assemblies evident in production processes.
- Compile reports summarizing inspection and calibration activities.
Receive primary work direction from Quality Engineers and Senior Quality Engineers. Engage in frequent communication regarding inspection and audit activities with personnel across Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Test Lab. Occasionally discuss specific quality issues and inspection methods with suppliers. Collaborate closely with calibration service and equipment suppliers.
Position Dimensions:
Handle confidential information, including costs and specifications. Inspection tasks typically involve surface plate work, optical comparators, material hardness testing, surface finish measurements, CMM, roundness/cylindricity assessments, calipers, micrometers, and various gauges.
