About the Opportunity

As a Public Health AmeriCorps Member with Volunteers of America-MN, you will play a vital role in promoting health and well-being within our Minneapolis-based affordable housing sites. Your work will focus on reaching underserved individuals and providing them with access to essential resources.

Job Description:

  • Market and promote health services to residents, ensuring they are aware of available options.
  • Lead group health sessions to support residents' self-management of chronic conditions.
  • Partner with Community Health Workers (CHWs) to provide individualized health promotion services.
  • Coordinate events featuring Community Paramedics and/or Pharmacists.
  • Conduct introductory and ongoing visits/calls with residents to set health goals and connect them with needed resources.
  • Cover important doctor appointments with residents.
  • Collaborate with VOA services and community professionals to ensure a wide network of resources is available.
  • Maintain program participant privacy by following HIPAA regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years old or older by two weeks prior to start date.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • U.S. citizenship, national, or lawful permanent resident status required.
  • Mandatory National Service Criminal History Checks.
  • No prior service exceeding four terms with AmeriCorps State or National.
  • Fluent English skills.
  • Professional computer skills and confidence using computers.

Volunteers of America-MN offers over 800 units of affordable housing and provides health and social service support to thousands of Minneapolis Public Housing residents annually.
