The American Red Cross is seeking a skilled Laboratory Specialist to join our team. As a Laboratory Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of blood typing and crossmatching procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform serologic, molecular, and immunologic procedures, including DNA extraction, PCR amplification, and sequence-based typing.
  • Recognize testing irregularities, identify the cause, and resolve the problem or refer it to the appropriate level.
  • Review and interpret final results, prepare and review final reports, and maintain accurate records.
  • Evaluate, validate, and implement new laboratory techniques and procedures.
  • Train and retrain staff, and contribute to competency assessments.
  • Participate in special projects and analyze and summarize testing data.
  • Communicate with hospital or transfusion facility personnel to report patient findings and receive orders.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and one year of previous HLA experience or molecular genetics laboratory experience.
  • Certification as Molecular Diagnostic Specialist from the National Creditation Agency (NCA) certification.
