Clinical Nursing Supervisor

As a pivotal member of the nursing leadership team, the Clinical Nursing Supervisor plays a critical role in assisting the Nurse Manager with the operational and administrative functions of the unit, particularly during non-standard hours. This position is essential in fostering collaboration among healthcare professionals to uphold exemplary standards of nursing practice within the clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Supervision: Maintain a strong presence in the clinical area to oversee patient care and support staff, ensuring high-quality service delivery.
- Accountability: Share responsibility with the Nurse Manager for achieving departmental and organizational objectives, including enhancing patient satisfaction and promoting team engagement.
- Staff Development: Engage in the recruitment, retention, coaching, and evaluation of nursing staff, while also managing work schedules and workflow effectively.
- Human Resources Participation: Collaborate with the Nurse Manager in essential human resource functions under supervision.
- Quality Improvement: Actively participate in initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care outcomes, including the development and implementation of quality improvement processes.
- Resource and Support: Serve as a knowledgeable resource for patient care and unit operations, assisting staff in honing their problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Record Maintenance: Ensure accurate documentation related to staff competencies and quality audits.
- Professional Development: Act as a role model and mentor for nursing staff, participating in committees and workgroups to support the unit's governance model.
- Continuous Growth: Take initiative for personal professional development and growth.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required within five years of hire.
- Experience: A minimum of two years' experience as a registered nurse is necessary.
- Licensure: Must hold a valid Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia and possess American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification.
Physical Requirements:
This role involves prolonged standing, frequent bending, climbing, and the ability to lift/push/pull over 100 lbs. Candidates should possess strong communication skills and attention to detail, with the capacity to work in various environmental conditions.
