We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Laboratory Technician to join our Consultants team in the Lafayette, LA area. The successful candidate will be responsible for sampling, processing, and testing materials in accordance with established procedures and specifications, including proper documentation of testing results.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform physical, index, and chemical construction material laboratory testing, as assigned, including concrete, hot mix asphalt, soils, and aggregate testing.
  • Properly document hours worked and assist in client billing efforts.
  • Perform and maintain documentation of routine maintenance and calibration of equipment.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and safe laboratory and work space.
  • Maintain relevant certifications and participate in regular review of pertinent testing methods.
  • Meet deadlines and priorities according to established procedures.
  • Demonstrate safe usage, storage, and maintenance of all tools and equipment, including company vehicles.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external personnel.
  • Understand, adhere to, and participate in the Raba Kistner Health & Safety and BBS Programs.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma, G.E.D., or possess at least one current relevant industry certification, such as ACI Field, ACI Concrete Strength, ACI Aggregates, TxDOT SB101, SB102, SB103, SB201, SB202, 1A, or 1B, or other comparable industry certifications as required.
  • Possess a valid driver's license within the applicable jurisdiction and meet firm's auto insurability requirements.

If no certifications are currently held, the successful candidate will be required to obtain at least one of the industry certifications as designated by the supervisor with support of the firm within six months of employment. Good oral and written communication skills, ability to read and understand procedures, specifications, instructions, labels, reports, etc. Must have some knowledge of basic math and science to analyze lab results.

While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, stop, and talk. Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds (with or without assistance from others) to include, but not limited to, sample containers and equipment. Daily required to use hands and reach. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, focus vision, and depth vision.

Work environment includes potential exposure to movement of heavy equipment on construction or roadway sites; potential exposure to hazardous dangerous chemicals and solvents, noise, dust, fumes, grease, and oils, radiant and electrical energy, and vibration; all of which would require the employee to implement and follow proper safety procedures and utilize appropriate protective equipment.

Regular use of non-complex machines, tools, and equipment; must also possess the dexterity to utilize delicate and small laboratory equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

This position may require protracted or irregular hours. Flexibility to work irregular hours is necessary due to client needs. Work may require out-of-town/overnight travel to Raba Kistner offices, client offices, and project locations.
