Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead environmental compliance initiatives, ensuring seamless integration with project phases, engineering, construction, start-up, and operation.
  • Develop and implement work instructions and procedures for environmental pollution control equipment, driving efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Identify and execute regulatory strategies that balance business needs with environmental responsibility, fostering a culture of sustainability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, project management, consultants, and regulatory agencies, to ensure compliance and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Prepare, review, and submit reports, ensuring timely and accurate communication with stakeholders.
  • Monitor and inspect construction contractors for environmental compliance, promoting a culture of accountability.
  • Investigate environmental incidents, applying causal learning and root cause failure analysis to drive corrective actions.
  • Lead or participate in continuous engineering development, ensuring environmental requirements and permits are in place when necessary.
  • Report deviations or exceedances to regulatory agencies, upholding our commitment to environmental responsibility.
  • Evaluate and identify federal, state, and local environmental compliance issues, driving proactive solutions.
  • Lead air emission stack testing, collaborating with the environmental team to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide data and information to the environmental team for external communications, promoting transparency and accountability.
  • Communicate with procurement and OEMs to acquire optimal pollution control equipment, driving efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Develop a plant operator's environmental handbook, training operators and staff as needed, to ensure a culture of sustainability.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Environmental, Civil, or Mechanical), Environment Management, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field, or a combination of post-secondary education and related experience.
  • Minimum 7+ years' experience interpreting environmental standards, rules, and regulations, and their application to organizational processes, facilities, and equipment.
  • Experience with environmental compliance of greenfield construction activities, including construction, stormwater, and managing contractor compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Experience interpreting standards, rules, and regulations, including EPA, ADEM, USACE, and DOT requirements.
  • Experience working on diverse environmental permitting projects, including air quality, water quality, and waste management.
  • Broad understanding of commonly employed engineering principles, environmental and safety requirements, and familiarity with local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Preferred Requirements:
  • SAP knowledge.
  • Experience with DRI and CCS operations.
  • Experience with ISO-14001 auditing.

HOURS OF WORK: Days, Monday to Friday with extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads
