Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure a safe and healthful work environment by adhering to established safety protocols and procedures, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Implement and uphold standards outlined in the Company 'Code of Conduct' and comply with DOE directives.
  • Supervise staff involved in Waste Processing, Packaging, Transportation, and Waste Generator Services, providing necessary functional support.
  • Guarantee the execution of Waste Management Program requirements across the client site, interacting with regulatory bodies as needed.
  • Offer technical guidance in the development and maintenance of Waste Management procedures to support project activities.
  • Establish and maintain processes for waste characterization, sampling, processing, and preparation for transportation, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Review and authorize waste documentation prior to submission to the DOE and relevant regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure that waste characterization aligns with disposal and site acceptance criteria.
  • Comply with all environmental regulations governing the management, treatment, storage, and disposal of site wastes.
  • Facilitate the transition to a computerized system for waste stream/container characterization and control.
  • Provide support to site waste generators in the proper characterization, shipping, and disposal of waste.
  • Advise DOE and client groups on waste characterization issues and develop actionable plans.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, along with eight years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, including four years in a nuclear environment.
  • A minimum of three years of supervisory experience.
  • Familiarity with DOE orders and regulations related to hazardous and industrial waste.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with DOE and state regulatory bodies.
  • Knowledge of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and radiological waste management practices.
  • Willingness to travel less than 20% of the time.
